In the process industry, the hazard that exists due to the nature of the processes is primarily tried to be limited by design. In addition to the right design, we try to operate the production processes efficiently and safely by keeping the basic process control systems and alarms and variations within acceptable limits. In cases where the basic process control system is insufficient, safety instrumented systems designed within the scope of functional safety undertake the task of protecting our process from major accidents.<\/p>\n<p>It is aimed to plan the right investment for scenarios with high risk levels determined by <em><strong>functional safety<\/strong><\/em> studies and <em><strong>process hazard analyzes<\/strong><\/em> and to operate processes by making installations in accordance with the planned.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space empty_h=&#8221;2&#8243;][vc_custom_heading text_size=&#8221;h3&#8243; text_weight=&#8221;600&#8243;]<strong>Determining SIL Requirement<\/strong>[\/vc_custom_heading][vc_empty_space empty_h=&#8221;2&#8243;][vc_column_text uncode_shortcode_id=&#8221;206704&#8243;]Process hazard analyzes carried out within the scope of Process Safety are carried out by identifying hazards, evaluating and analyzing risks and managing them. The identification of process hazards can be carried out using qualitative techniques such as the <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><a style=\"color: #3366ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.proscon.com.tr\/tehlike-ve-isletilebilirlik-analizi-hazop-calismasi\/\">HAZOP Study.<\/a><\/span> However, when it comes to the planning of investments, it is necessary to determine the numerical equivalents of the safety instrumented functions (SIF) created using hazard determination tools.<\/p>\n<p>At this point, IEC 61508 and IEC 61511 standards allow us to determine the level of safety integrity within <strong>Functional Safety<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>According to IEC 61508 and IEC 61511, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=6gN9D1KlDzI\"><strong>SIL<\/strong> <strong>requirement<\/strong><\/a> can be determined using the following methods.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>ALARP Method<\/li>\n<li>Risk Graph Method<\/li>\n<li>Risk Matrix Method<\/li>\n<li>Fault Tree Analysis (FTA)<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><a style=\"color: #3366ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.proscon.com.tr\/lopa-koruma-katmanlari-analizi\/\">Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA)<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space empty_h=&#8221;1&#8243;][vc_custom_heading text_size=&#8221;h3&#8243; text_weight=&#8221;600&#8243;]<\/p>\n<h3><strong>SIL Verification<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>[\/vc_custom_heading][vc_empty_space empty_h=&#8221;2&#8243;][vc_column_text uncode_shortcode_id=&#8221;176932&#8243;]Verification means the process of establishing the truth, accuracy, or validity of something. After determining the SIL level needed in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=kRisFPBSbcw\"><strong><u>Functional Safety<\/u><\/strong><\/a> Engineering studies, the studies carried out to determine whether the designed system architecture and the equipment and instruments to be used meet the required SIL level are called SIL Verification.<\/p>\n<p><strong>SIL Verification<\/strong> indicates the capability of a <strong>Safety Instrumented Function<\/strong> (SIF) in accordance with <a href=\"https:\/\/intweb.tse.org.tr\/Standard\/Standard\/Standard.aspx?081118051115108051104119110104055047105102120088111043113104073088120074075047054079052075104055\">IEC 61508<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/webstore.iec.ch\/publication\/24241\">IEC 61511<\/a> against the following requirements.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Measuring the impact of random hardware failures (Probability of Failure on Demand (PFD) or Average Frequency of Hazardous Failures (PFH))<\/li>\n<li>Hardware security integrity architectural constraints (Safe Failure Fraction (SFF), Hardware Fault Tolerance (HFT), Element Type A or B)<\/li>\n<li>Systematic capability<\/li>\n<li>Common cause failure (CCF)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Failure Modes and Effects Criticality Analysis (FMECA), and Reliability Block Diagrams (RBDs) are used when performing SIL Verification studies.<\/strong>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space empty_h=&#8221;2&#8243;][vc_single_image media=&#8221;82864&#8243; media_width_percent=&#8221;50&#8243; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221;][vc_empty_space empty_h=&#8221;2&#8243;][vc_column_text uncode_shortcode_id=&#8221;161657&#8243;]Where SIF fails to achieve the target failure measure or SIL, a sensitivity analysis can be performed to show the effect of changing certain factors.
